About the Episode

I’m so guilty of moving through my week at a breakneck sped trying to get through to the weekend. And then, once I’m there, I feel like I’m still wired for productivity when I should be relaxing into a time of rest. My mind stays on my to-do list instead of noticing the joy of the moment. If you find yourself in a similar spot, listen in as I pray for you and I, the distracted mom.

This is episode 21 of the Simply Sabbath podcast.

When we arrive at the end of the workweek, there is a beautiful opportunity to welcome the Sabbath and the rest it brings for ourselves and our family. And while it is a beautiful opportunity, it does not come by without intention. I see you and the work you do to usher in this day of rest. You make sure the home is clean, the meals are prepped, and the activities you’ll do together as a family planned. You work with purpose the other six days in anticipation of the seventh.

Before you begin your rhythm of Sabbath welcome, the next few minutes are for you. It is an acknowledgement of the good and loving work you are doing in the various roles you have the responsibility to steward throughout the week. It is a reminder that you are not alone in this desire to live counter culturally. And it is an encouragement to continue seeking to rest with Jesus. So stop what you’re doing. Close your eyes and listen to this, my prayer of blessing over you.

Lord Jesus, may the mom who has moved through the workweek distracted, look up the Sabbath and take notice.

May she see the way the orange and pink meet in an embrace in a sunset.

Or the way glitter blankets the top of frozen snow.

May she spot the movements of love and kindness among her people.

May she not miss the warmth that encompasses her as she curls up with a book and a blanket. May the silence of the workweek amplify the joy-filled noise of the Sabbath. And may she, maybe for the very first time, notice what she has been missing as she speeds through life, giving her attention to a demand that may or may not have the right to it.

May she rest in the beauty that surrounds her this Sabbath. And may she see your hand in it all. In the grandeur and in the everyday.

May she not miss it. May she take stock of it. And may she rest in it. Amen.
